Welcome to the InDesign CS6: New Features Workshop

In this chapter we'll lay the groundwork for this course by reviewing some of the fundamentals of InDesign. Then you'll get a general introduction to the new features in InDesign CS6.

- Guide-based rules for Liquid Layout allow you to create guides that will preserve the relative position of page items when creating alternate layouts. When using guide-based rules it is important to create guides that cross over all important objects in the layout. - When scaling type as a group in InDesign, you may notice that a % symbol sometimes shows up in the type size. This can be an issue when you want to make edits for the new sizes. In this video you will see how to resolve the percentage for type when using Scale for Liquid Page Rules, as well as how to use the new Split Layout view to compare your alternate layouts as you make adjustments.

- Creating an eBook (or EPUB) file is not as straightforward as you might imagine. Content that needs to wrap to multiple screen sizes is heavily dependent on styles. To carry those styles over to eReading devices and be able to predict what will happen to your InDesign document during the EPUB creation, you will need some fundamental understanding of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), as you'll see in this video.

- In this lesson we'll take a look at creating a "better" or more accurate EPUB using some of the new features in InDesign CS6. You can add author information and more carefully control the paragraph styles by adding Export Tagging rules and linking to a custom CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) file.
