Creating an Architectural Drawing in AutoCAD

In this course you will draw a cottage floor plan using the dimensions given in a pencil sketch that was scanned as an image. You will use a variety of editing tools and solve problems as you encounter them in this real-world project. The contents of this course include:

Starting Your Project
To begin the project you will underlay a sketch as an image in AutoCAD. You will select the most appropriate units and scale the image to its real-world size as given in the sketch’s dimensions. You will also create a few layers according to the objects in the sketch.

Drawing Strategies
In this lesson you will observe as I draw part of the cottage floor plan at a normal drawing speed. You will see how I select tools to solve specific geometric problems and gain some experience emulating my drawing strategies.

Fitting Together the Pieces of the Puzzle
In this video you will watch me improvise as a missing dimension forces me to draw the plan from a new direction. You will continue to gain valuable insights into the drawing process, seeing how it is a fluid process that can proceed in many different ways.

Completing the Floor Plan
In this lesson you will add doors, windows, counters, fixtures, and appliances to a floor plan. You will also see how layers are used to color-code and keep different systems separate.
