In this workshop you’ll learn advanced techniques for working with ColdFusion 10 and ColdFusion Builder. The contents of this course include:
Getting Organized
This chapter will walk you through the steps necessary to set up for this course. These include installing both ColdFusion and ColdFusion Builder, setting up the files and the database, and customizing ColdFusion Builder for this course.
The Application Framework
ColdFusion provides a very flexible application framework that is available for you to use within your applications. This chapter begins with an overview of what this framework can provide, and the rest of the lessons will take you through the process of building an application framework for a sample website.
Error Handling
Error handling can be provided within the application framework if you wish to make use of it. In this chapter you'll learn about the various levels of error handling that are available to you and see how to create the code to deal with your error handling at the application level (without adding any code to your individual pages).
ColdFusion Components
ColdFusion components (CFCs) provide a more object-oriented way to create and modularize code in your application. You’ll learn the basics of CFCs in this chapter.
Creating a Tour Booking Area
In this chapter we will set up a new booking area for the sample Travel Adventures website. In the process you will learn about the various ways you can handle form data in ColdFusion and how to control the information from a form.
Working with Form Data
This chapter covers the code needed to handle form data in various ways. We will display form details on the page after the user clicks the form button, insert the form data into the database, and create an email form confirmation for the user.
Working with Instance-Based Components
Coding static components is very different from working with instance-based components. This chapter offers an overview of how to code an instance-based component and walks you through the various ways you can call a component method.
The lessons are wrapped in a feature-rich interface that lets you jump to any topic and bookmark individual sections for later review. Full-Screen mode provides a hi-def, immersive experience, and Watch-and-Work mode shrinks the video into a small window so you can play the videos alongside your application. Also included are exercise files that give you an easy way to try out the techniques you learn.
It's easy to watch this course from your Android device, iPad, or iPhone (4 or later). Access videos straight from your browser, or, for Android devices or iPads, use this course in one of our free apps.
Project files are included with this course so you can practice what you learn and work right along with the videos.
This course features video2brain’s interactive interface. As you navigate the course, rolling over a chapter or video brings up text describing that item.
Full-Screen mode provides a hi-def, immersive experience. And Watch-and-Work mode puts the video into a resizable window that you can shrink so you can watch the lessons on one side of your screen while you’re following along and applying what you’ve learned on the other.
This course comes in crisp 1280 x 720 high definition video.
Available in the downloadable version of our courses, this feature makes it easy to create a custom bookmark in any lesson to mark where you left off or to make note of something you want to refer back to later. You can even add a name or short note to remind yourself what the bookmark is for.
